Carnalridge Primary School Harvest Collection Provides Flip Flops
Carnalridge Primary School, Portrush, have kindly donated part of their Harvest Collection to Rock Ministries (NI) Trust to purchase flip flops for school children at Butangaala Primary School, Uganda. This very remote rural Primary School has been established in recent years with financial support from our charity. Education is being provided for many children who otherwise would not be able to avail of a worthwhile education. Some of the families may be able to provide a simple uniform for their children but few are able to stretch to shoes or footwear of any kind. Going without shoes can be fine when the weather is good but not so comfortable when wet. Also, for those going barefoot, little jiggers (flea-like insects) can enter the skin and cause...
many medical problems due to infection. Severe infestation of jiggers can even result in death. The provision of flip flops for these children will be a huge benefit, saving them from the discomfort and dangers of jiggers. Ian and Phyllis recently joined with the staff and pupils for a morning assembly when they were presented with a cheque. They had the opportunity to talk to the staff and pupils about the problems associated with jiggers and they outlined the benefits of wearing even simple flip flops. They were able to show the children a pair of flip flops which were made in Uganda from old car tyres – a wonderful example of recycling! The photograph shows the Principal, Mr Keith Elliott and the Primary 1 class having a look at the flip flops which will be provided on their behalf. A big thanks goes to the staff and pupils of Carnalridge Primary School for their generosity in providing such useful items for these needy children. Thank you, Carnalridge, for helping to make a real difference for children so much less fortunate than yourselves. Well done!
