DUBLIN MARATHON - SUCCESSFUL FUND RAISING FOR ROCK MINISTIRES (NI) TRUST

We are very grateful to Angela Whatmuff and Innes Young who both completed the Dublin Marathon recently and raised some very valuable finance for Rock Ministries (NI) Trust. A few years ago this couple also raised support when they ran the Great North Run but this time they raised the bar somewhat and went for the full marathon! Congratulations and well done to this pair who has been loyal supporters of our work over the years.  A quote from Angela perhaps sums up why they decided to run this marathon much better than we could express it:

“I am so glad that we have been able to help Rock Ministries (NI) Trust...the work you both do is absolutely fantastic and I would happily run a marathon every month if it meant we could raise the same total over and over…..and indeed on those long runs it is the thought of your work and those needy children and families that keeps me going. Innes and I are just amazed at how generous people have been with their sponsorship.”

Proudly showing off their medals!                                            The triumphant finish!

Angela works for Aon Hewitt and Innes works for Aviva and their employers have agreed to donate also and this will bring the total to around £2,000! What a wonderful and encouraging donation towards the work we do and the needy people whom we seek to support. Just also to add that Angela has dedicated this marathon run to the memory of Mrs Della Millar who was a close friend of the family and who died from breast cancer.

Maintaining a steady pace                         Enjoying his time in Dublin!

It has been decided that the money raised should go to a little rural Primary School called His Grace Primary School in a remote village called Butangaala, near Jinja, Uganda. This school has just been established in the last few years and they have recently built a new 3 classroom block. Previous to this, some of the classes had to meet under a tree which was not ideal especially in the wet season! The classroom block is being used in spite of the fact that it has not been finished inside, with no doors, windows, floors etc. This money will go to help finish the interior of this block for which pupils and staff will be most grateful. This wonderful gift will certainly help Rock Ministries (NI) Trust to fulfil its aim of helping to make a real difference in the lives of such needy people!

The children are so thankful that their classroom will soon be complete

The three classroom block can now get windows, doors and floors put in!
